MACHO TRIVIA
2011 Newsletter

Man oh man. Where does the time go? It becomes increasingly difficult to fit a trivia contest in and write the contest when you've got things like getting married, getting new jobs, and moving to Texas going on.  This year definitely tested us. The idea of taking a year off was brought up, but we thought no, the show must go on. Because no matter how much life seems to throw at you, there are a few constants still around. One of which is this trivia contest. So let's do it! Oooohh Yeaaahh!

The Macho Man might seem like a trivial figure himself, but as children growing up in the 80s and early 90s,  professional wrestling wasn't just "entertainment" like it is now. It was a big deal. Huge, bulked up stars who would beat the snot out of each other weekly, then do it all again. What wasn't to love?! And hey, he did always have the kind of body always in demand.

Last year we went "Back to the Contest" and with the help of 11 teams enjoyed one heck of a weekend. We hope that many of you can participate again this year and hope as always to see a few new faces when registration time hits...Speaking of which, teams interested in participating in Trivia can email us at bigpoppa67@gmail.com.

Registration for all teams will begin on Friday, August 5.  Please email us to set something up, we can be flexible with this date because some of us have stuff going on that weekend or will be thousands of miles away. Teams playing from out of town should email us and we can work out a way to send in your registration information and fee.  All teams will have this year's Trivia Snapshots emailed to them after they have completed registration (the first snapshots will be sent out on Monday, August 8).  At that time we will also send along information including the phone number to call answers in to, your trivia ID number, and information on how to join in the web broadcast of the contest.  It will again be $10 per team to play, and that money will be spent on another fancy first place trophy. Perhaps this year we will have a prize to give to the second and possibly third place teams as well (if not a flying elbow drop off the bar at Joe's at the post-contest award ceremony may have to suffice.)

Trivia Countdown begins at noon on Friday, August 12.  Six straight hours of great music to get everyone in the mood for a little trivia.  The contest will kick off at 6 PM on Friday, August 12 and run straight to 9 PM on Saturday, August 13.  27 glorious hours to spend holed up in a basement with great friends. What could possibly be better than that?  When the contest wraps up,  all are invited to the post contest celebration and award ceremony at Joe's Bar, on the square, in beautiful downtown Stevens Point. You can even check out the fancy new fountain down there!

We're almost there. Just a few more days to go. Hopefully you guys are ready for it. Like we said, it wasn't easy, but we put together a pretty fun contest for you this year. Get your team ready and let's play trivia like it's played only in Stevens Point. Looking forward to getting some emails to set up registration and then start reading some questions to you. As always, we hope you have as much fun playing in our contest as we had putting it together.

BACK TO THE CONTEST
2010 Newsletter

As I sit down to write this newsletter it seems this year something is different. Maybe it's because right now it's 73 degrees in Stevens Point instead of 90. Or maybe it's because a few weeks ago something felt like it was missing. Then it hit me. Hey! We're supposed to have a trivia contest soon. Well this year we decided to do things differently. We got out of the hot days of summer when people have so much going on and moved things back to September. Not only will the temperatures be more accommodating, hopefully everyone's schedules will be, too. We are hopeful more can participate this year with this new set up, which brings us closer to halfway there to the big contest. But here we are again. About to go...Back to the Contest! 25 years ago Marty McFly and Dr. Brown lit up the big screen. This year the excitement and fun returns, and you don't even need a DeLorean.

Teams interested in participating in Trivia can email us at bigpoppa67@gmail.com.  Registration for all teams will begin at 8 PM on Friday, September 3.  Teams playing from out of town should email us and we can work out a way to send in your registration information and fee.  All teams will have this year's Trivia Snapshots emailed to them after they have completed registration (the first snapshots will be sent out on Monday, September 6).  At that time we will also send along information including the phone number to call answers in to, your trivia ID number, and information on how to join in the web broadcast of the contest.  It will again be $10 per team to play, and depending on the number of teams we can hopefully supply a few teams with trophies this year. And if we end up with any money left over it'll go to Friends of 90 FM.

Trivia Countdown begins at noon on Friday, September 10.  Six straight hours of great music counting us down to 27 great hours of trivia.  The contest starts at 6 PM on Friday, September 10 and runs until 9 PM on Saturday, September 11. Really what better way is there to spend a weekend?  Once it is all said and done all teams are invited to the post contest celebration and award ceremony at Joe's Bar, on the square, in beautiful downtown Stevens Point.

So I guess the time is upon is. Cue up Europe, the Final Countdown is upon us! We've been encouraged by all the new teams emailing us for info about this year and hopefully the contest will continue to grow. It's always a great time so get your teams together and keep the emails coming. This year is bound to be the best yet. If my calculations are correct, when this contest hits 88 miles per hour...you're going to see some serious trivia.

A FISTFUL OF TRIVIA
2009 Newsletter

To paraphrase Bob Dylan, "Summer days and the summer nights aren't gone. I know a place where there's still somethin' going on." That something is Trivia 2009: A Fistful of Trivia and it's going on soon. As life goes on we experience new and different things, buying houses, getting new jobs, and even get ready to get married. But no matter how many changes pop up, there is always a constant in the summers in Stevens Point. And it's not just the humidity. Trivia will be back, and this year it will be back big.

Last year it was "Blazing Trivia," a tribute to the late Harvey Korman, consisting of 9 teams. Dad's Computers took home their third straight first place finish and a great time was had by all the teams who participated. We're hoping for a bigger and better contest this year and we welcome anyone who is interested in fielding a team.

Teams interested in participating in Trivia can email us at bigpoppa67@gmail.com.  Registration for all teams will begin at 8 PM on Friday, July 17.  Teams playing from out of town should email us and we can work out a way to send in your registration information and fee.  All teams will have this year's Trivia Snapshots emailed to them after they have completed registration (the first snapshots will be sent out on Monday, July 20).  At that time we will also send along information including the phone number to call answers in to, your trivia ID number, and information on how to join in the web broadcast of the contest.  It will again be $10 per team to play, and that money will be spent on another fancy first place trophy.  Hopefully we can get enough teams to be able to get a 2nd and 3rd place trophy to hand out after the contest as well (this year we mean it!).

Trivia Countdown begins at noon on Friday, July 24.  With six straight hours of great songs it truly is the final countdown for 27 hours of trivia.  The contest will kick off at 6 PM on Friday, July 24 and run straight to 9 PM on Saturday, July 25.  27 jam packed hours of great music, great trivia, and great friends.  When the contest concludes everyone is invited to the post contest celebration and award ceremony at Joe's Bar, on the square, in beautiful downtown Stevens Point.

Man, time sure is flying by. I guess we better start writing some questions. Hopefully you're ready for it. Get the team back together and let's play trivia like it's played only in Stevens Point. We really hope to continue to grow and to meet some more great trivia players this year, and as always, we hope you have as much fun playing in our contest as we had putting it together.

BLAZING TRIVIA
2008 Newsletter

Funny how time flies.  In no way does it seem like one year ago we were getting ready for our third contest, but here we are.  It's 80 degrees out and insanely humid, meaning of course it's summer in Wisconsin.  As the summer moves on and the calendar pages turn we inch closer and closer to August 8, the kickoff for this year's contest.  "Blazing Trivia."  With so many great and talented individuals passing on in the past year it was tough to decide upon a theme for the contest.  We lost Hollywood's mayor, a mountain climber, a musical icon, an acting icon, the greatest Golden Girl of them all, and a personal hero...RIP George Carlin.

Onto brighter subjects, last year's "Trivia's Got a Brand New Bag" saw eight teams compete, with Dad's Computers continuing their reign with a second straight title.

Teams interested in participating in Trivia can email us at bigpoppa67@gmail.com.  Registration for all teams will begin at 8 PM on Friday, August 1.  Teams playing from out of town should email us and we can work out a way to send in your registration information and fee.  All teams will have this year's Trivia Snapshots emailed to them after they have completed registration (the first snapshots will be sent out on Monday, August 4).  At that time we will also send along information including the phone number to call answers in to, your trivia ID number, and information on how to join in the web broadcast of the contest.  It will again be $10 per team to play, and that money will be spent on another fancy first place trophy.  Hopefully we can get enough teams to be able to get a 2nd and 3rd place trophy to hand out after the contest as well.

Trivia Countdown begins at noon on Friday, August 8.  With six straight hours of great songs it truly is the final countdown for 27 hours of trivia.  The contest will kick off at 6 PM on Friday, August 8 and run straight to 9 PM on Saturday, August 9.  27 jam packed hours of great music, great trivia, and great friends.  When the contest concludes everyone is invited to the post contest celebration and award ceremony at Joe's Bar, on the square, in beautiful downtown Stevens Point.

So here we go.  The time is getting near.  The questions are ready, the music is ready.  Are you ready?  Get your team ready for trivia like it's played only in Stevens Point.  It's going to be a great weekend full of a lot of fun and we hope you'll be able to join in on the action.  And as is becoming a customary way to close the newsletter, we hope you have as much fun playing in our contest as we had putting it together.

TRIVIA'S GOT A BRAND NEW BAG
2007 Newsletter

It Ain't No Drag...Trivia's Got a Brand New Bag.  Anticipation for this year's contest is at a fever pitch.   The third year of the contest hopes to see more expansion.  Last year Get Trivia saw six teams compete and Dad's Computers bring home the top prize.  After a few kinks were worked out with the server everything flowed smoothly and the weekend turned out to be fantastic.

Teams interested in participating in Trivia can email us at bigpoppa67@gmail.com.  Registration for in-town teams will begin at 8 PM on Sunday, July 29.  Teams playing from out of town should email and we can work out a way to send in your registration information and $10.  All teams will have this year's Trivia Snapshots emailed to them after they have completed registration.  At that time we will also send along information including the phone number to call answers in to, your trivia ID number, and information on how to join in the web broadcast of the contest.

We will start the Trivia 007 Countdown at noon on Friday, August 3.  For six straight hours we'll pump out some great songs and get everything ready to go for 27 hours of trivia, starting at 6 PM on Friday, August 3 and going straight to 9 PM on Saturday, August 4.  That's 27 solid hours for great music and great trivia.  Once everything wraps up all teams are invited to the post contest get-together and award ceremony at Joe's Bar in beautiful downtown Stevens Point.

So get your teams together, get your emails in, and get your wits sharpened.  Once again it's time for trivia like it's played only in Stevens Point.  We look forward to hearing from you all and hope you'll have as much fun playing in this year's contest as we had putting it all together.

GET TRIVIA
2006 Newsletter

Get Trivia.  A theme Maxwell Smart himself would approve of.  In the second year of the contest everything is back, bigger and better than ever before.  When I started writing contests for my friends and relatives about 10 years ago they were about 4 hours long and we used the old pen and paper-hand in answer technique.  I never dreamed of that little contest growing into something so big where we have REAL trivia teams playing.  I thank everyone for their interest and enthusiasm in bringing this contest about.

Originally the date for the contest was set to be in June but when we discovered Rock the Brewery was the same weekend we quickly changed plans.  It was worth it to put it off for a month to take in the concert.  But anyway, we're ironing out some things and will have everything in line this weekend for the second annual webcast contest.  Last year it consisted only of teams made up of Festivus For The Rest Of Us members with Tony Danza's Cuban House of Oars taking home the top prize.  This year the competition, as well as the questions, will be stiffer.

Registration is going to begin at 2 PM on Saturday, July 15.  To receive more information, please email me at bigpoppa67@gmail.com and we'll set everything up.  We're not sure if we'll have the resources to print off the pictures or will be simply emailing them to teams, so stay tuned for that.  Once you get all set up, the webcast begins at 12 o'clock noon on Friday, July 21st with Trivia Countdown.  The Countdown will run until 6 when 27 hours of Trivia kicks off.  We will play until 9 on Saturday night and are planning some sort of get-together for all those involved at an establishment to be named in beautiful downtown Stevens Point.

Hopefully we'll dodge the storms (not to mention power and cable outages) that swept through Point last year.  If a problem does arrise with inclement weather, we will contact the teams to keep them abreast of the situation.

Now with all that stuff out of the way, start on your emails to us so that we can set up registration and get the ball rolling on what should be a great weekend of trivia, music, and friends.  And it's all done the way it can only happen in Stevens Point.  Can't wait to hear from all the teams.

HERE'S TRIVIA
2005 Newsletter

It's almost Trivia Time...I know what you're saying, "It's only July," but thanks to the efforts of three of the fine FFTROU captains, July 23 and 24th will see a new 27-hour contest debut this year. Registration is going to open up Monday at 12 AM Central Standard Time. Greg has a lot more of the info and I'm sure he'll post that soon, and hopefully get a section going on http://www.festivusfortherestofus.org. We will be streaming the contest online, so even if you can't be in Point, you can still participate.

We've been working hard to get this thing to work over the past couple of months, so I hope everyone can participate and be involved. It'll be a great weekend of fun, friends, some great trivia questions and some of the best music I could come up with. The contest will begin at 7PM on Saturday, July 23 and will go until 10 PM on Sunday, July
24. Team size is limited to four, so talk to your friends and get a team set up! Due to scheduling problems we couldn't figure out a date until recently, and that's the reason for the shot notice. However, with a team of four, even if you have to miss sometime it shouldn't hurt your team all that much and you can still enjoy a lot of good trivia fun.

So tell your friends, other teams, anybody you talk to and get a team together. Hopefully you guys will have as good of a time playing as Chuck, Greg, and myself did writing and working on the contest. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact any of us three.

In just eight days we party like it's mid-April and enjoy the festivities of a great trivia contest and some great times with great friends. Hopefully you'll all be able to join in.

-FFTROU Captains Greg, Chuck, and Jeremy
